I love watching the ocean waves from Queen Mary 2. It’s one of my favorite pastimes and why I always try to book one of the single cabins on Deck 2 or Deck 3L, the passenger cabins closest to the waterline.

This was how a Force 8 gale on October 5, 2011, looked from the port side window of the Commodore Club. The 40 knot wind was blowing straight at this side of the ship and the waves were 25 feet high. QM2 was returning to New York (docking early October 7) from Quebec City at the time.
The Commodore Club is a ship-wide bar forward on Deck 9 about 110 feet above the water line. It has great views ahead and to either side (except after dark when the shades are drawn so the lights won’t bother the officers above on the Deck 12 navigation bridge). It’s a great place for reading during the day and for music, conversation, and night caps after 6 PM.

December 21, 2023, the next-to-last day of transatlantic round trip M337A. .
The halls on Decks 2 and 3L on either side of the Royal Court Theatre are also good for wave watching. Here is a view of the same storm two hours later from of the Deck 2 starboard hall. The view here is more into the wind.
